A few questions answered:
When should I book my wedding day photography?
The two things that should be at the top of your list when planning your wedding day are: your location(s) and your photographer. Those are the two that will book up the quickest. The earlier you book your wedding day photography, the more options you have. Consider too that Vanessa G. Photography usually only books 1 wedding in any month. A good rule of thumb is to book at least 6 months in advance. More is better. Also consider that your Bridal portraits should be taken no later than 2 months before the wedding. If you want Engagement images, you’ll want to do that many months prior to the Bridal.
Why is my date not available if you do not have another wedding that day?
Vanessa G. Photography is primarily a custom portrait photography studio that specializes in environmental locations and natural light techniques. We do accept a limited number of wedding dates each year and usually not more than one in any month. This is primarily because of the level of care that is invested in each image produced. In order to dedicate the appropriate time to editing your images, fewer dates are available. Typically, wedding dates are not accepted in October or November due to the high volume of portrait sessions requested during these months.
How do I reserve my date?
A retainer fee and a contract signing is required to reserve your wedding date. This fee is non-refundable. It is best to reserve your date 6 months or more in advance.
Why should I choose you as my photographer?
Vanessa G. Photography is known for a relaxed, non-traditional style of creative photography. I specialize in natural light techniques and prefer a more observational style at weddings. I prefer to limit the posed group shots as much as possible and focus more on the bride and the emotional journey of the day.
If you want a more traditional style of cookie cutter photography, you may not want our services. Many photographers claim to have a ‘journalistic’ style of wedding photography. Please take a look at their images online and judge that for yourself.
What other things should I consider when choosing a wedding photographer?
You and your wedding day photographer should have these things in common:
- The same vision for the imagery you want to capture. (Style of photography)
- Compatible personalities. You will spend a very long stressful day with your photographer by your side and occasionally in your face. You will want to choose someone you think you will enjoy or at least appreciate.
- Attention to detail. Surely you’ll want a photographer that captures images that show the small details you invested in to make your day perfect. You’ll also want the other details that make the experience more pleasant, like good customer service, quality images, and quality prints and products.
Will you bring a second photographer?
No. Vanessa works alone for portrait sessions and weddings. It is difficult to find a second trained photographer that meets our level of expectation, to work a limited number of weddings. Many wedding photographers will employ a second photographer that is not a trained individual. You will have plenty of family and friends with flash cameras to capture the posed moments. We see no need in offering a second camera person just for the sake of saying we have one.
I’ve seen a few things I’m interested in, like save the date cards and custom registry books. Do you offer these too?
Almost anything you’ve seen can also be ordered through Vanessa G. Photography. There are few wedding industry secrets.
I’m working with a budget. Do you offer a discount?
No. The prices you see above are more likely to go up than down. When you officially book your date, you are guaranteed that price.
Please consider that your wedding photography is the only thing from your wedding day that will be long lasting, other than your dress and rings. Your dress will probably never be worn again (unless you Trash It with us!). Your wedding day images will likely decorate your home for the rest of your life.
Here’s a test for you to try: Take the total amount you plan to spend on each part of your wedding and divide it by 30 years.
Example: Flowers for $2500 divided by 30 = $83.33 per year.
Try a DJ…$1000 divided by 30 years = $33.33 per year.
That’s a lot of money to pay for something that lasted you one week or one night. Put things in perspective when planning your budget.
Your images are the only thing that will last for 30+ years. That’s pennies per day for a lifetime of enjoyment. That’s a much better value.
