Meet Elena, class of 2011 at Lumberton Senior High School. She is the first new Senior Model Representative to be revealed. Not only is she beautiful, she’s incredibly polite. I think she said, “yes, mam” during our session only about a hundred times. It made me feel really old, but it was very appreciated. It’s refreshing to meet a teen that erases all the unruly stereotypes.  As the up and coming president of the Native American Student Association, she has some big plans. She has a few outreach programs in mind that are sure to make a difference in her community.

Please click on the small music note in the top left hand corner of this blog (just over the logo) to turn off the website music before you click play on Elena’s video.

All 2011 Senior Model Representatives get a FREE copy of their session video. ;)

If you missed the application deadline, send me an email and let me know where you’ll be going to high school this year. There could be a spot just for you!

If somehow you’ve missed my Facebook posts about needing some super fun 2011 Senior Models to represent Vanessa G. Photography this year, then here we go again.

We’re looking for a slew of 2011 Seniors who meet these qualifications: You must be outgoing and enjoy being photographed. Extra-curricular activities listed on your application are a plus. You must have a Facebook profile because that’s where we’ll be posting your FREE video slide-show of your session images. And of coarse, you’ll be graduating in 2011 from a public or private high school in Bladen or any of it’s neighboring counties.

VGP Senior Model Representatives get: $100 print credit, Video slide-show to share online, 60 Model Rep cards. You can also earn an awesome Display Book for free by referring several friends. Also, you could become a local celebrity :-)

We are accepting applications until July 17th. Don’t forget to take your boring Senior drap/tux picture with the school so you will appear in the yearbook. (Their silly policy, not ours.) Come do all the fun stuff with Vanessa G. Photography! (Application can be found by clicking on the LINK button on the menu bar. Just email with a snapshot.) Models chosen based on personality and their desire to help promote Vanessa G. Photography. Not based on looks. If you’re under 18, you do need parent permission, so get to it! Only ONE model per school this year, and several have been selected already.

Here’s a recent 2010 Senior for you to enjoy…

It will soon be that time of year again. The local high schools will have a company come in and set up for senior portrait day. Lines will form, directors will point, and with the exact tilt of their head every senior will walk away with a gorgeous portrait. Or will they? What’s good for one is good enough for all, right?

Or can you imagine something a little more unique? …A portrait session that incorporates something that represents you. Time and attention from one professional photographer that makes you the main attraction for more than about 30 seconds. The ability to choose your own location. Not feeling rushed or nervous. So many images to choose from that you almost can’t decide, and when you can’t, we can use them to put together a display book that will put those leather folders full of 4×5′s to shame. And best of all, working with a professional who knows how to post process your images and take them from  good to wow. (read…that big zit will be our little secret, wink)

Here’s a senior who did it his own way…

(When you’re through gazing into those eyes…can I just point out that I’ve never seen a school portrait where I could see this kind of detail in the eyes!)

The excitement of Senior year happens only once in a lifetime. It’s that unexplainable feeling that your life is about to transform into something completely different. It’s an anticipation that rarely ends without a few sleepless nights spent worrying about the decisions you’re about to make.

This lovely young lady has great expectations of her future. To the 2010 Seniors, dream big and congratulations!

I’ve been reflecting on my recent lighting workshop. I love what adding a simple light source can do for a photograph. For the past few years I’ve been a hard core natural light only photographer. I still am for the most part, and I love the challenge of using what is available to create the mood and light the subject in the way I choose. But, I’m also learning to appreciate more tools now.

Painting has never been a media of choice for me. Light, on the other hand, is quickly becoming my new paint brush.

This lovely lady is fellow photographer Melissa Surprise of Surprise Photography in NY. She was my teammate for a little “light painting” fun. Thanks girl!

Mama must be proud of her little girl. Although she isn’t very little anymore. This high school senior has grown up to be a beautiful young woman. So beautiful that I just couldn’t decide what to share with you!!

Thank goodness someone asked if she wanted more lip gloss. She turned back to answer and this shot turned out to be one of my favorites.

Those eyes. That smile. The hair. All perfection. Look out world!

The typical majorette school-photographer pose was not going to work for me. I wanted to see some talent.

And then this was the last of the majorette series. The majorette barbie version. You may see this one, HUGE,  in my new studio during your visit to the open house scheduled for January 2010.

Congratulations Cristan! You’ve almost made it! I see great things in your future.
