Blog tips.

If your computer is not showing you a drop down menu under “galleries” (here on the blog) where you can select a gallery to enjoy, then here is one way to fix that.
You need to clear your cache.
While your Internet browser is open (Explorer, Firefox, etc.), go to the menu at the top and look for an option to “clear your history”. Since all browsers are a little different, you may need more specific directions. Do a search online for, “clearing cache” and you’ll find some easy instructions out there.
This should allow your computer/browser to update with the newest version of www.vanessagphotography.com next time you visit. It’s helpful for other frequently visited websites as well.

All grown up.
Posted on October 28, 2009
Mama must be proud of her little girl. Although she isn’t very little anymore. This high school senior has grown up to be a beautiful young woman. So beautiful that I just couldn’t decide what to share with you!!
Thank goodness someone asked if she wanted more lip gloss. She turned back to answer and this shot turned out to be one of my favorites.

Those eyes. That smile. The hair. All perfection. Look out world!

The typical majorette school-photographer pose was not going to work for me. I wanted to see some talent.

And then this was the last of the majorette series. The majorette barbie version. You may see this one, HUGE, in my new studio during your visit to the open house scheduled for January 2010.

Congratulations Cristan! You’ve almost made it! I see great things in your future.

Little Man.
Posted on October 27, 2009
This little fella was the friendliest I’ve seen in a while. It only took two minutes for him to stretch out his arms for me to hold him. Maybe he remembers me from mom’s maternity session last year. (Babies CAN hear in the womb you know!) It doesn’t matter to me why he liked me. It just made my day that he did.
Two quick lessons for today:
1: Let them NOT smile for a few.
This is how he looks. This is his personality. Calm. Sweet. Questioning. I love this one!

2: Get the action shot.
He was talking on and on about something that had to do with these blocks. It was in his own language, but interesting just the same. It all just meant “play with me.” This is a kid, being a kid. I much prefer this over the traditional portrait. Here he has an expression that means something. I look at this image and I remember his baby babble and how sweet it sounded. And how he was so proud of his new blocks that he’d gotten at his 1 year old birthday party the weekend before.
The blocks were not a copied studio prop. They were HIS. This gives the image more meaning. There is a story that goes with them and a whole lot of memories.

The smallest things.

Newborns are so shiny and new. So innocent. When they sleep like a rock, these are the kinds of images I end up with. These types of images are usually only possible in the first 10 days of life, with day 6 being ideal. Why? Because babies were curled up in womb and will happily curl up in those first two weeks. They also sleep more readily and more soundly.
I do prefer newborn images in black and white for several reasons. One is because most newborns, while completely beautiful, are also usually sporting purple feet and a few other shades of color that will disappear in the first few weeks. BW images have the ability to take away our perception of color (which naturally draws in our eye) and allows us to focus on the expression, contrast, and simplicity. She’s just perfect.

Hot mama.
Posted on October 19, 2009
When you think of pregnancy and how you’d describe a pregnant woman, words like cute, glowing, and beautiful come to mind. Needless to say I was super excited to have captured this image. Dad-to-be here clearly thought she was one ‘hot’ mama. This was captured mid morning. You can see the very bright aura from the morning sun that landed right between them. It’s almost a little too bright, BUT there are times when expression out ways technical perfection. I wouldn’t change a thing in this image. Love it!

First in line.

Finally, the new blog site is up and running! These two lovely girls are first in line. I’m sure you can tell that they are sisters. Each unique. Each personality a little different. Each with their own beautiful traits.

Check out those all natural sun kissed highlights. Yes, the rest of us pay for those.

I love this peaceful look.

They seemed to enjoy each other. This looks like a life long friendship in the making.
